Hi!
Thanks for stopping by! I’m Erin, the working mom/foodie behind white plate blank slate. Once upon a time, I had another blog, but then I had two beautiful girls and they became the center of my universe. Now my little sous chefs are 7 and 10. My favorite thing is cooking for and with them, and lucky for me, they both love to cook and love to eat. (Though, if you read some of my posts, you already know they don’t actually like everything!) Chef Eclair (the 10-year old) is picky, but does love kale, rabbit and squid ink pasta (though broccoli makes her cry.) The feisty Chef Nutmeg will try anything and likes most stuff – but no kale for her, thank you very much.
Born and raised in New Jersey, I’m a Jersey girl through and through (even if I married a Canadian!) Contrary to popular opinion, NJ has some fabulous food, great produce, and stellar microbrews (my current fave is Wet Ticket). I’m a die-hard fan of my Dreyer Farms CSA and love finding new ways to use the gorgeous produce, especially if that means getting my girls to try a new vegetable, like beets for example… And please don’t ever tell them that zoodles are made out of zucchini.
When I’m not in the Garden State, I’m usually at my home away from home on Martha’s Vineyard – aka my Happy Place. I started going to the Island every summer when I was about 5 and now I’m so glad my girls love it as much as I do.
Regardless of my whereabouts, I love to be in the kitchen – trying my hand at new recipes, or new twists on old favorites. I truly believe working moms like me can put homemade, healthy meals on the table, even after a long day at work. Sure, there are nights when a quick pizza run is a must, but most of the time, with a little planning, we have fresh homemade food.
So have a look around. Say hi. Ask questions. Leave suggestions. I love hearing from you.
Happy cooking,
Erin
